Icebug's mission is to make it easier for people to get out into nature, while we lead development towards a sustainable shoe industry. An important part of that work is to constantly look for materials and processes that can reduce the climate impact. We have found many effective solutions and are happy to share everything we know.

SOME OF OUR MOST SUSTAINABLE CHOICES:
In 2019, Icebug became the world's first climate-positive shoe company. Now it's time for the next step. We are the first manufacturer of performance footwear to openly report our materials and processes for each shoe style. This is a complex industry, where a shoe can have over 50 different components - and our firm belief is that customers, the industry and the planet win if we are transparent with what materials we use and where they come from. We call it Follow the Footprints. Our hope is that more companies follow us. WE ARE THE FIRST TO OPEN DOORS
BLOOM FOAM
Only 2.5% of all water on earth is fresh water - and this percentage is rapidly dwindling. When we make our shoe midsoles we add algae harvested from a harmful bloom we call algae foam. Using this Bloom Foam we clean up water sources and reduce our dependence on oil. In the SS21 collection the midsoles contain 10% algae.
Fishing net
Milspeed is the material used for the heel and toe reinforcements of our shoes made from recycled polyester and recycled nylon from fishing nets fished out of the ocean.
Durable uppers
89% of all textile materials in our SS21 collection are made from recycled materials. As far as possible we use bio-based material or recycled PET from plastic bottles and coloring techniques with the lowest possible environmental impact.
DRITAN
our leather shoes are made exclusively with the finest nubuck leather from the manufacturer ECCO DRITAN. Dritan is a modern dyeing technique that greatly reduces the use of chemicals and water. By using leather dyed with the Dritan system we avoid that more than a ton of chemical products are discharged into the environment every year.
ALL ICEBUGS ARE CLIMATE-POSITIVE
In early 2019, the UN named Icebug the world's first climate-positive shoe company. This means that we at Icebug measure our greenhouse gas emissions and reduce them as far as possible - we have promised to, at a minimum, half climate emissions from 2015 to 2030, which everyone must do to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. Icebug compensates for more carbon dioxide than we emit giving us a historical climate footprint. From the present and into the future we will compensate for 200 percent of what we emit by investing in UN-certified projects that reduce greenhouse gases.
1% FOR THE PLANET
WE GIVE BACK TO THE PLANET
In early 2020, Icebug became the first outdoor shoe company to join 1% for the Planet. This global initiative means that we are committed to investing one percent of our annual sales to non-profit organizations that work for the good of the planet.
FAIRWEAR FOUNDATION
NEW STEPS TO BETTER CONDITIONS
Icebug recently became a member of the Fairwear Foundation, an international non-profit organization that supports clothing and shoe brands in improving the social conditions in production (working conditions, wages, union involvement, gender equality, etc.). They are a neutral partner who gives advice, contributes with training and performs inspections of our producers.
